Sony Ericsson calls it a ”purity product”, and its codename is ”Kiki”. The surface is influenced by an unusual structure and only a few keys; the design is nothing like we’ve previously seen from Sony Ericsson.

The display seems to be made of glass, and the screen image appears to be projected onto this glass surface. It makes it possible to create a sort of depth in the screen image, and it looks rather exciting. We’re very much looking forward to seeing more of this.

We currently don’t have any specific information about the features of this phone, and the design doesn’t offer a lot of hints. There isn’t any visible camera on the phone, and the screen icons seem to prove that it isn’t a particularly advanced mobile phone.

We’ll naturally follow up on the case, when more information about the phone is available.

According to a report by the New York Times, the firm’s Chairman, Johnny Shih, said that the handset will be called, unimaginatively, the Eee Phone.

During an interview with the NYT about his thoughts on the future digital world – which is one where mirrors magically turn into TVs, apparently – Shih said that “Eee phone may become an interactive control”.

Sadly his statement says little else about the Eee phone’s functionality. Will it support 7.2Mb/s HSDPA and have a full touchscreen? Will it be thinner than a Post It, yet as strong as carbon fibre? Many questions remain.

The Eee phone won’t be Asus’ first mobile, though. It’s already unveiled “the fastest business PDA phone in the world” – the P565, which is powered by an 800MHz Marvell processor.

It’s rumoured that the Eee phone will run Google’s Android OS and hit the market in March. ®
